Research Question How can a competency framework for Coaching Psychologists be developed to enhance the coaching relationship and achieve positive outcomes? Methodology The research was conducted in four main stages:

  1. Systematic Review: Analyzing existing literature to identify gaps and focus areas in coaching psychology research.
  2. Critical Incident Technique: Interviews with 25 participants to identify effective attributes and skills for coaching psychologists.
  3. Cross-Validation Questionnaire: Data collection from 107 participants to evaluate the reliability and validity of the initial competency framework.
  4. Quasi-Experimental Study: Comparing a trained group of coaches with a control group using 26 participants to assess the framework’s effectiveness.

Findings

  1. The coaching relationship is a key determinant of positive outcomes in coaching interventions.
  2. A competency framework was developed, comprising 13 competencies and 75 behavioral indicators categorized into three groups:
    • Soft Skills, such as enhancing motivation and self-esteem.
    • Process Management Skills, such as setting realistic goals.
    • Learning Facilitation Skills.
  3. The quasi-experimental study revealed that coachees who received coaching from trained coaches reported better relationships and stronger belief in achieving their goals.
